Commentary on Truck Rollover Accident on Houston Street in San Antonio

Folks tend to assume things like this are all going to take care of themselves. This was a commercial truck, after all, so isn't this just a work accident? Perhaps, but even that doesn't make everything all that straight-forward.

For one, Texas companies are not required to subscribe to the workers' comp system. In other words, some employees retain their right to pursue an issue through the courts. While that doesn't offer the automatic benefits workers' comp can, it can often produce more just results for those harmed due to their employer's negligence.

On the other hand, passengers in a commercial vehicle aren't always co-workers. They can be family members, friends, or even some hitchhiker along for the ride. In a lot of circumstances, since those people aren't affiliated with the driver's employer, they would have rights to seek help just as they would if they were in a completely separate vehicle hit by a truck. Is that something that may have happened here?

Likely or not, these crashes are complex to investigate properly. While it's not likely something unusual happened here, getting answers ahead of time is often the best way to get people the help they deserve.
