Commentary on Robbie Villarreal 18-wheeler Accident in Houston
With a crash like this, things may not be as straight-forward as folks may think. While police say the truck driver did something wrong, a crash report alone isn't likely to be enough for someone to tell their side of the story.

For example, I had a crash not long ago where a truck driver cut someone off crossing a highway. After the crash, though, they blamed the victim, claiming they were speeding and not wearing their seatbelt. We knew that was ridiculous, but it was our burden to prove it.
Some factors that helped do this was finding that the victim's car had a frozen speedometer the police overlooked, proving they couldn't have been speeding. Additionally, we tracked down and recorded statements from numerous EMS responders who actually had to cut through the victim's seatbelt to get them out of the wreckage.
It was only after picking apart their defense that the company decided to cooperate. That's why a crash like this is usually better off in the hands of experienced independent investigators who can ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. Are those steps being taken here?
