Commentary on Melina Alejandra Sanchez 18-wheeler Accident in Jersey Village
With a situation like this, things may look pretty open-and-shut. After all, authorities outright say the truck driver made an unsafe lane change. But things are rarely ever that simple. For example, with this many vehicles involved, there are plenty of targets for a defense team to try to shift blame to--even the victim.

Not long ago, a trucking company did just that after one of their drivers cut off a car on the highway, leading to a devastating wreck. They had the nerve to blame the victim's injuries on the victim, saying they were speeding and not wearing their seatbelt. Through our investigations, however, we were able to prove through a diligent reconstruction of the scene that the victim couldn't have been speeding. Additionally, we recorded numerous sworn testimonies from EMS responders who actually had to cut through the victim's seatbelt just to get them out of the wreckage. Only after all of that work did the trucking company eventually cooperate.
I'm not saying anything like that happened here, but such hurdles are far more often the norm than the exception. That's why it's always prudent for victims and families to have allies on their side who can anticipate and overcome these hurdles. Doing so is crucial for getting people the help they deserve.
