Commentary on Rosalba Chairez De Jimenez Truck Accident in Hidalgo

With a situation like this, it wouldn't be all that unusual to find that inattention was a factor. After all, how does a tractor-trailer driver so unaware of their surroundings they hit a parked vehicle in the parking lot they're turning into? There could be unusual circumstances to consider. For example, the property itself could be poorly designed or lacking lighting to the point that parked vehicles are inherently in danger of being hit. It's also possible, though, that a mistake could be a sign of a much larger problem.

In a case I handled a while back, for example, it came to light that a reckless trucker actually had barely any training. The company essentially hired someone who was unqualified to drive a commercial truck, rushed him through all of the vital safety training, and put him on the road as soon as physically possible. They didn't care about the safety of others or even their new hire. All they cared about was doing business at all costs--even if the cost was innocent life.

Now, I'm not saying anything so serious happened here, but it's likely no one would have know about the above example if they just slapped the truck driver on the wrist and moved on. Things are rarely ever simple, and ensuring there are thorough investigations is crucial for getting people the help they deserve. Are those steps being taken here?
