Commentary on Single-Vehicle Accident on Central Expressway in Wichita Falls
At 2:00 a.m., I have little doubt folks out there are going to just assume that the driver did something wrong. Alcohol is an especially concerning possibility since investigations could show that a local bar illegally over-served the driver and could therefore be liable for the crash under dram shop law. But what about less common factors? A medical emergency, mechanical failure, tire defect, road hazards, some other reckless driver that left the scene--these are all possibilities that have led to deadly wrecks in the past. They can certainly happen again. But it takes thorough investigations to ensure that nothing important slips through the cracks. That's why a crash like this often requires more thorough independent investigations. Maybe nothing unusual happened here, but the victim's loved ones deserve to know they're getting the full story.
