Commentary on Hit-and-Run on Foster Road in San Antonio
It's always quite frustrating to see another Texas hit-and-run where a driver left someone they hurt behind. I'm relieved to some degree that the victim's injuries don't seem to have been grave, but that certainly doesn't excuse the person who caused them from remaining and trying to help.
So why didn't they stay? Only finding them could say for certain, but many hit-and-run drivers flee the scene for just a handful of reasons--simple panic, sometimes, but more often to hide something from investigators. Drug possession, active warrants, and drunk driving are among the most common things they'd prefer to keep to themselves, so they take off. If other illegal activity occurred on top of failing to stop and render aid, that only makes it more critical to find the driver and hold them accountable.
Canvassing the area for witnesses and security cameras can often help authorities get a description of the runaway vehicle. Additionally, keeping the details in the public eye usually helps someone in the community connect the dots. It may take some time, but I'm confident that if everyone works together and remains vigilant a bad actor can be found and some answers can be had.
