Commentary on Truck Accident on Route 191 in Moab

Folks tend to see a driver cross a center line and just assume that driver was doing something reckless. As possible as that is--likely, even--it's important to consider other possibilities, as well. For example, sudden mechanical failures due to a defect can cause a deadly wreck without any way for the driver to predict or avoid it. As unlikely as folks may say that is, they likely would have said the same about the infamous GM ignition switch scandal, and estimates say that killed over a hundred people. Yet the public didn't know about the issue for years because it took countless independent investigations to finally connect the dots. Perhaps further investigations here will show that something unusual led to this tragedy, as well.
