Commentary on Pedestrian Accident on US-62/82 in Wolfforth

Right now there's far too little information about this accident for anyone to say how it occurred. Some folks may have instinctively blamed the pedestrian for being on or near the highway, but that's unfair unless further investigation shows they acted unsafely.

As things stand there's still a lot of work to do just to know what happened. Where precisely was the victim in the road? How long was he there before the car passed through? Where was he prior to running through the road? The driver said they couldn't see him; why not? Is that area lit up at night? What was he wearing? Were the striking vehicle's lights on? Was the driver awake, alert, and paying attention?

That's just a handful of many questions that a careful investigation will seek to answer. It's best to find as much clear evidence as possible after a collision, both to ensure everyone's on the same page about what happened and to seek accountability if anyone specific is found to be at fault. Will police look into this carefully enough to get all the facts? The victim's loved ones deserve no less than the full story.
