Six Injured in Rollover Accident on FM 492 in Hidalgo County, TX
Hidalgo County, TX -- May 30, 2022, six people were injured, including children, following an accident on FM 492 after a rollover crash.
Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 1:00 a.m. along FM 492 near Celso Street.
Officials said that a 54-year-old man was driving a Ford Explorer northbound along FM 492. For reasons unconfirmed at this time, the vehicle lost control and overturned.
Due to the crash, the driver and five passengers, including three minors, sustained incapacitating injuries. No further information can be confirmed at this time.
Commentary on Single-Vehicle Accident on FM 492 in Hidalgo County
This early in the morning, people are often quick to assume the driver in a single-vehicle wreck did something wrong. Things like distraction, fatigue, and alcohol are certainly common, and they warrant investigation. That's especially true with things like dram shop law, which gives victims an opportunity to hold a bar liable for their injuries if that establishment illegally over-served the driver. But that's still just one possibility. Are the authorities being thorough enough to consider other possibilities? From mechanical defects to road hazards to even other vehicles that left the scene, I've looked into plenty of crashes where it turned out authorities missed something important.
