J Antonio Rodriguez Injured in Truck Accident on TX-349 in Upton County

Upton County, TX -- June 1, 2022, 78-year-old J Antonio Rodriguez was injured in a crash between commercial trucks on State Highway 349 in Upton County.

According to reports the incident happened around 8:55 a.m. on TX-349 near mile marker 390. Preliminary investigation suggests Rodriguez was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer north on the highway ahead of a second Freightliner and trailer.

Reports say Rodriguez floored his brakes and veered right for unknown reasons, driving partway onto the shoulder. The second truck driver steered left to avoid the scene, but Rodriguez over-corrected left and swerved back through the travel lanes. His truck's cab crashed with the other truck's. He then traveled a short distance further north before his truck jackknifed and caught fire. The second Freightliner came to rest against a nearby barbed-wire fence.

Rodriguez suffered critical injuries in the accident. The other truck driver was reportedly unhurt.
