Commentary on Seth Buchanan Accident on FM 922 in Cooke County

If reports have their facts straight it sounds a great deal like a part of the victim's vehicle--one he likely couldn't have broken on purpose without enormous effort--gave way. If a steering column breaks in the way reports suggest, drivers have little hope of keeping control of their vehicle. I'm glad to learn the victim survived this accident, but many folks whose vehicles broke down on them can't say the same thing.

Depending on exactly which part of the steering assembly gave way before the crash and why, its manufacturers may have some answering to do for what happened. That's not a part that gets subjected to weather or wear during drive time, and it's definitely something that should "pop" loose. The specific reason it broke loose should definitely be investigated by skilled professionals who have the time and training to figure that out.

If something in the victim's Jeep was faulty and broke loose during normal use, that could mean thousands more Jeeps across the country with the same steering assembly could have similar issues. That means it's important to get to the bottom of what happened on FM 922, both to get the victim help and to prevent future potential victims from crashing similarly. Will law enforcement give this situation the time and attention it deserves?
