Pedestrian Killed by Vehicle on Gulf Freeway in Houston, TX

Houston, TX -- June 15, 2022, a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Gulf Freeway in Houston.

According to reports the incident happened around 5:25 a.m. on the freeway near Telephone Road. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was spotted panhandling by a Houston deputy, who approached her in his patrol vehicle.

The woman reportedly fled from the officer and ran through the Gulf Freeway feeder road, then into the main lanes. She cleared the southbound roadway and was partway through the northbound lanes when she was struck by a passing car.

The woman, thought to be in her 50s, suffered fatal injuries in the accident. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
