Alma Garcia-Garcia Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident on FM 800 in Harlingen, TX

Harlingen, TX -- June 12, 2022, Alma Garcia-Garcia was killed due to an accident where a vehicle crashed along the roadway.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 6:40 p.m. along FM 800 near Business 83.

According to authorities, 57-year-old Alma Garcia-Garcia was in a vehicle traveling along southbound FM 800. For reasons unclear, the vehicle lost control and ran off-road where it overturned, ejecting Garcia.

Garcia sustained fatal injuries due to the crash, reports say. No further information is currently available.

It's not clear what exactly went wrong here, and I can only hope people aren't going around jumping to conclusions. People read about a single-vehicle wreck, and they often assume the driver must have been speeding, on their phone, or drunk. These do happen, and police suggest in recent reports they're considering alcohol. Maybe that's just standard procedure, or maybe some local bar is responsible for illegally over-serving the victim. Those possibilities are certainly important to investigate, but are authorities equipped and experienced enough to consider less common possibilities, as well?

This would leave drivers going highway speeds without any control over the vehicle. This reportedly killed over a hundred people, yet the public didn't know about the issue for years. It took independent investigators connecting the dots to finally bring the truth to light.

How many people read about all of those deadly wrecks and just assumed the victims did something wrong? That's why jumping to conclusions can be so harmful. There's a family out there in need of answers, and it may take far more thorough investigations than what authorities are offering to get those answers. Are steps being taken here to ensure the right people are looking into this tragedy?
