Three Injured in Tow Truck Accident on Woodward in Detroit, MI

Detroit, MI -- June 13, 2022, three people were hurt following an accident where a tow truck turned into a sedan on Woodward Avenue.

Investigators reported that the incident happened off the corner of Woodward Avenue and Seven Mile. Video evidence shows that a tow truck traveling along Woodward turned into oncoming traffic and crashed into a sedan. This caused the tow truck to run off-road where it overturned into a business.

Due to the crash, three people were hurt, but it appears a woman in the sedan was the only one taken to a hospital. Witnesses said that people in the truck made indications there was a road rage incident leading to the crash, but this has not been confirmed. Investigations are ongoing.

Commentary on Tow Truck Accident on Woodward in Detroit

This is certainly an unusual series of events. Someone said that a person in the truck came out saying someone was shooting at them, and another witness said that two people in the tow truck were arrested. The video does little to shed light on either of those claims, as it really just appeared as though the tow truck lost control or was attempting to make a turn. If this is some odd series of events where there was an emergency that caused the tow truck to veer into oncoming lanes, then perhaps the tow truck driver isn't as responsible as it seems.

But if that was just some baseless excuse or an over-reaction to a situation, then I don't see any reason why a proper, thorough investigation into the facts wouldn't be enough to get the victims some much needed help. Of course, ensuring that nothing important goes overlooked needs to be part of those investigations.

Is there a history of reckless driving here? Are the drivers properly licensed and well-trained? Has this kind of situation happened before with the tow truck? Was any kind of road rage stemming from actions the tow truck driver made? Maybe authorities are looking into all of this, but independent investigations may be necessary to bring the whole story to light.
