Commentary on Israel Martinez, Desiree Martinez Single-Vehicle Accident in Houston

I often talk about the importance of not jumping to conclusions following single-vehicle wrecks like this. Unfortunately, many have a hard time following that advice. Quite frankly, that's because things like distracted driving and drunk driving are all too common this early in the morning.

Now, I wouldn't suggest ignoring that, of course. Those are both worth considering, especially alcohol given the possibility a local bar illegally over-served the victims and can be liable for their role in the crash. But just because other possible factors are less common doesn't mean they should be overlooked.

Mechanical defects, tire blowouts, medical emergencies, road hazards, even other vehicles that left the scene can all lead to a deadly crash. Without proper investigations, how can one be sure they're getting the full story? For victims and families in need of whatever help they can get, clear answers are indispensable. Maybe authorities are taking those steps here, but it wouldn't be the first time if there needed to be more thorough independent investigations.
