Dallas, TX -- May 19, 2022, two people were injured following an accident where an 18-wheeler crashed into their vehicle on I-45.

Authorities were called to the area of I-45 and Simpson Stuart Road at around 3:30 a.m. It appears that a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were in a Smart car traveling northbound on the Julius Schepps Freeway. An 18-wheeler reportedly made an unsafe lane change, hitting the car.

Due to the collision, the girl in the car reportedly had incapacitating injuries. The driver was said to have non-incapacitating injuries. Right now, no additional details about the crash are available.

Commentary on 18-wheeler Accident on I-45 in Dallas

With a crash like this, things may seem pretty open-and-shut, but certain factors could create obstacles. One is the size of the victim's car. That car, being relatively uncommon, could lead some people to accept that it would be harder for the truck driver to see. But how, then, would a truck driver see a motorcycle? A scooter? A bicyclist? A responsible trucker would no doubt answer: they wouldn't, that is unless they were actually paying attention to their surroundings.

But if that doesn't help sway people, simply blaming the victim could still help. Folks are quick to blame younger drivers, which only makes clear evidence even more crucial. People may jump to conclusions, but they're less likely to hold those assumptions when faces with clear evidence. Considering these reports don't clear those issues up, it's likely that getting the facts and helping the victims involved will require more thorough independent investigations.
