Commentary on Hawkins Man Motorcycle, Truck Accident on US 84 in Fairfield
I certainly don't have any specific reason to doubt these reports, but I always take preliminary reports with a grain of salt until there's been a more thorough independent investigation. Authorities don't always have the tools or experience to investigate as thoroughly as a family needs them to, and that's how mistakes happen. This is especially true with motorcyclists.

Unfortunately, a lot of people--authorities included--harbor a negative bias for motorcyclists. This leads them to jump to conclusions that the motorcyclist must have done something wrong before they even have evidence. That's how one gets into a situation like one that came to me not long ago where police put a motorcyclist 100% at fault only for our independent investigations to show police completely got the facts wrong. Maybe nothing so extreme happened here, but folks should keep those challenges in mind before they go around blaming people just because a preliminary report says so.
