Commentary on Rollover Accident on I-35 in Laredo
After single-vehicle wrecks like this it's much too easy for people to jump to conclusions. Things like distraction, impairment, and speeding are all pretty common, so people have a tendency to blame every similar wreck on one or more of them. They're all worth investigating; it could even turn out that a local bar over-served alcohol to the driver and is liable for his crash under dram shop law.
However, just because some issues are common doesn't mean they can be taken for granted. It's important to consider less-common factors as well. Did the vehicle have mechanical problems or defects? Did the driver have a medical condition that made them lose control? Was the road hazardous? Was anyone else around or involved and just left the scene?
Some may roll their eyes and say that's just overcomplicating things, but nobody can really be sure what happened unless all the possibilities are properly considered. Someone was seriously hurt here, and that fact alone warrants finding out how and why. Anything beyond that depends on what is learned.
