Aman Pirani Injured in Car Accident on TX-121 in Coppell

Coppell, TX — May 24, 2022, 27-year-old Aman Pirani was seriously injured in a traffic accident on State Highway 121 in Coppell.

Authorities say the incident happened around 1:20 p.m. on TX-121 near Denton Tap Road. Preliminary investigation suggests Pirani was driving a Honda Accord north on the highway behind a Toyota Venza. Reports indicate he failed to control his vehicle's speed and rear-ended the Toyota, causing it to hit a retaining wall and then veer onto the shoulder before coming to rest. The Honda hit the wall and jumped it, , then rolled across southbound traffic lanes and hit the guardrail on the far side.

Pirani suffered serious injuries in the accident. The Toyota's occupants, Robert and Jean Malechek, reportedly received minor injuries.

Investigators suspected Pirani of being intoxicated. Blood samples were collected for testing.

No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Aman Pirani Accident on TX-121 in Coppell

If blood tests confirm alcohol was involved here, some may think that just means the driver will be charged accordingly. However, that would also mean there are other issues to address. For one thing, criminal punishment really won't help the injured man get back on his feet. Any DWI crash victim, even a suspected drunk driver, deserves any assistance they can get with the often-long road to recovery. That's why it's important that the people hurt in this crash know about Texas dram shop law.

Under dram shop law, licensed alcohol providers who over-serve an obviously intoxicated person may be liable for damages he causes or suffers while under the influence. A dram shop claim against a reckless bar can help injured victims seek much-needed help. Furthermore, it makes sure the offending business faces consequences for endangering its customers and the public.

So if dram shop's such a big deal will police add that to their investigation? Little as I like saying this, probably not. They don't often look into dram shop violations, so if a bar may have broken the law it's often better for independent investigators to seek proof of that. Armed with receipts, witness statements, security footage, and other evidence, many folks have successfully held bad alcohol providers accountable for the damage they had a hand in.
