There aren't many clear details here yet, but if two vehicles headed opposite directions collided the most logical explanation would be that one or the other crossed over the center line. If so then among all the other things to learn about this wreck there are two urgent questions to answer: Who crossed over and why?
To be sure those are answered quickly and properly investigators should look for every fact they can find. What does the electronic data from each vehicle say? Do debris analysis and tire markings give a more accurate picture of what occurred? Could someone have lost control during a medical emergency? What condition were both vehicles in, and could a damaged or defective part on either have contributed to the crash? How were visibility and sightlines? What about road conditions? Weather? Could someone have been distracted? If so, what had their attention? Were there any witnesses?

Those are just a few of the many questions that must be asked after such a serious accident, but it's uncertain whether police will go to the needed lengths.
