Commentary on Angele Veloso Truck Accident in Steuben
The most up to date images of this intersection that could find appear to show that traffic on the highway has the right-of-way. That certainly raises some red flags about a crash like this, but it's important folks don't go jumping to conclusions based solely on preliminary reports. Even seemingly obvious facts can overlook other important details.

For example, I was looking into a crash a while back where, according to police, a woman ran a red light. As a result, an 18-wheeler t-boned her car. Everyone in the comments was all too content to throw all kinds of accusations at the woman. When there were more thorough investigations, however, there were extenuating circumstances the public never considered.
According to more thorough reports, the 18-wheeler involved was going about 60 MPH on a 40 MPH road. Now, did this excuse the woman's mistake? Not at all. But that difference in speed in a fully loaded 18-wheeler can be the difference between life and death. Shouldn't that mistake be addressed, as well?
Just to be clear I'm not saying anything like that happened here. In fact, these reports are even less clear than those in the example. My point is that people are quick to jump to conclusions despite the fact these reports really don't say very much at all. That's why it's best to reserve judgment until more experienced investigators have a chance to look into what all happened here and what steps can be taken to help the victim.
