Commentary on Cory Aguillard Accident on US-96 in Jasper
If reports about this crash have their facts straight there may not be much else to say. It seems mostly to boil down to one driver making an honest but serious mistake by not yielding to approaching traffic.
It gives me a moment's pause to see that she allegedly didn't see the approaching bike, though. If that's true, why not? Were both vehicles' operators paying attention to their surroundings? Was their view of each other blocked somehow? What were light conditions like? Is that exit onto the road designed poorly?

I can almost hear the eyes rolling at those questions, and I'm not trying to place undue blame on anyone. I'm mostly just trying to point out that things are rarely as straightforward as early reports make them seem. If there's more to this than a simple mistake and someone should be held accountable, knowing that first requires more investigation and a clearer picture. Anyone injured in a crash deserves to know every effort was made to find the truth of what hurt them.
