Commentary on Joe Gonzales Motorcycle Accident in Amarillo

Just to be clear, I have no particular reason to doubt the reports I'm seeing here. However, I also have no particular reason to take them at face value. My experience simply taught me to let the evidence speak for itself. That's especially true when it comes to motorcycle wrecks, since even the authorities can be quick to blame a motorcyclist without the proper evidence to do so simply because they assume the motorcyclist must have been doing something wrong.

I actually handled a situation a while back where similar claims were made about a victim. Reports said that a motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic and hit a semi-truck that had just come out of a parking lot. When we actually spoke to the main witness, however, those reports turned out to be completely wrong. The officer somehow misinterpreted what the witness said, which was simply that the motorcyclist passed him on the left.

Maybe nothing like that happened here, but it would be far from the first time authorities missed something crucial. There could be extenuating circumstances surrounding this crash. Making sure there are thorough investigations can help to ensure that nothing important slips through the cracks.
