Commentary on Car Accident on Loop 20 in Laredo
With just the few details provided in the news it's almost impossible to say what really even happened, let alone who or what's to blame. As investigators try to connect more dots I hope no amateur detectives decide for themselves what went down.
There isn't a lot of information yet about how exactly this tragic crash happened or what caused it. I know that can be frustrating for people as they search for answers about how they lost a friend or loved one, but it's best not to jump to conclusions as the investigation continues.
Police still need to look into many of the crash's possible factors: Driver mistakes like distraction or speeding, vehicle problems or defects, road conditions and design, visibility, lighting and sightlines, inclement weather, other traffic in the area, and many other elements that could have influenced or even caused the crash. Considering all the variables is an important part of any investigation.

As investigators keep working to connect those dots, I want to repeat that making premature assumptions isn't a good idea. I've seen too many folks rush to judgment after reading a few sentences in the news, only to completely change their minds after more information came to light. Of course, a "by the book" police investigation may not fully explain things either.
After a major accident--particularly one involving a commercial truck--I generally suggest an independent investigation to better ensure the whole truth is found. Whatever is learned, those affected deserve to know they have every available answer. That may be the end of the matter or there may be questions of accountability to settle, but the first step is always learning the full story.
