Commentary on Big Rig Accident on Doolittle Drive in San Leandro

If I could be just a little blunt, the authorities mentioning speed as a possible factor does not exactly fill me with confidence that they're taking this crash seriously enough. I can't begin to count how many times I looked into reports where police said speed was a factor, and it turned out they were just guessing. Speed is often a factor in crashes, but it's rarely the only factor, and it doesn't excuse overlooking other possibilities, however unlikely they may be.

Were there mechanical issues? A tire blowout? Mechanical defects? Other reckless drivers that left the scene? Cell phone usage? Insufficient training or reckless business practices? Poor visibility or problems with signage and lighting? These are things authorities can often overlook. For victims and families in need of help, that can only serve to make an already devastating situation that much worse. That's why taking steps to ensure there are thorough independent investigations is crucial following any deadly truck wreck. I doubt this crash is going to prove to be the exception.
