Commentary on Train, Dump Truck Accident in Harmar Township

In situations like this, it's easy enough to just assume the truck driver did something wrong. Quite frankly, that's the most obvious explanation. Things like distraction, speeding, impatience, etc. are all too common, and it's not like trains can usually do anything unpredictable. However, a crash this serious cannot be taken lightly. Even if other factors seem unlikely, it's worth considering all possible factors.

Is there something wrong with this crossing? Did guards or signals not work? Have there been issues with this crossing in the past? Was the train going too fast, or did it fail to avoid the truck disabled on the tracks despite being warned ahead of time? I wouldn't bring any of this up if these factors hadn't contributed to crashes before. If nothing else, getting people the help they need means ensuring they have clear answers. Waiting around for the authorities may not be the prudent path toward accomplishing that.
