Commentary on Truck Accident on US 175 in Kemp
Distraction is certainly a common cause for crashes like this, but it's always important to be thorough and to consider all the possible contributing factors. Even something like cellphone usage can turn out to be more challenging when looked into more closely by experienced professionals.
For example, I had a situation come to me not long ago where a truck driver was on his phone and crashed. As we dug deeper, however, it turned out that he was texting his supervisor. That supervisor would constantly harass drivers throughout the day, and if they didn't respond right away, they'd get in trouble. Naturally, this was going to coerce drivers to engage in risky behavior to appease their unreasonable boss, and someone was bound to get hurt.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, but ensuring people are held fully accountable for their actions requires clear, extensive evidence. Taking the steps to make sure the right people are getting that evidence is often a vital step toward getting people the help they need, and this crash isn't likely going to be the exception to that.
