Commentary on Truck Accident on FM 1472 Mines Road in Laredo
When the only thing reports say is that a truck maybe, could have, possibly, hypothetically, perhaps went into someone's lane and caused a crash, that usually means they did. Still, this lack of clarity can only serve to make things more challenging for victims and families, which is why it's always important to be sure they're getting the full story. That can even lead to more serious issues needing to be addressed.
For example, I handled a situation not long ago where it seemed pretty darn obvious that a truck driver was reckless and caused a crash. As we dug into things, though, it turned out that the driver barely had any training whatsoever. His company just hired someone that walked through the door, rushed them through vital safety lessons, and put them on the road as soon as possible. Any decent truck driver can attest to how dangerous that is. It was just a matter of time before someone got hurt.
So what seemed like some ordinary open-and-shut case turned out to be a situation involving a reckless company that needed to clean up its act before more people got hurt. Maybe nothing so extreme happened here, but it's one of the many reasons I advocate for independent investigations in these situations.
