People often think crashes like this are relatively straight-forward given how common crashes are. Put simply, crashes need to be taken seriously no matter what to anticipate potential challenges standing between victims and the help they need. There may have been a mechanical defect involved. Someone may have been over-served by a local bar or restaurant. The authorities may not have the manpower or equipment to properly investigate things. Existing issues with the road or signage or traffic signals may be involved. At the end of the day, getting people the help they need means getting them the facts. That's not likely to happen when people just sit around waiting. More thorough independent investigations are often the more prudent approach, and the same could prove true here, as well.
