Authorities say the incident happened around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of South 11th and Oldham Lane. When the light turned green Amezcua proceeded into the intersection. Meier allegedly disregarded a red light and continued east, then crashed into the side of the Jetta.
Amezcua suffered serious injuries in the collision. Meier received minor injuries.

Commentary on Megan Amezcua Accident in Abilene
Reports say police collected blood samples from the driver who ran the red light. Considering the circumstances of the crash I suppose I understand why they wanted to see if intoxication played a part.
Depending on what the test results look like, the suspect may have some legal consequences coming. However, charging him doesn't do much to help the person he injured in that crash. If he really was impaired, however, then she may have other available options.
Texas dram shop law says that any alcohol vendor that over-serves its customers (meaning they keep pouring drinks even when someone is obviously intoxicated) may be liable for any damage those customers cause or suffer while under the influence. Dram shop claims are a way to help injured victims get much-needed help and also give law-breaking bars serious consequences for endangering their customers and the public.
Right now it's not even clear if alcohol was really a factor, let alone whether a business over-served it to someone. I'm not making any accusations, either. Only time and further investigation could say, so I hope investigators take every necessary step to get the victim the help she deserves.
