Commentary on Single-Vehicle Accident on McCann Rd in Gregg County

It's not clear yet what exactly happened here, but after single-vehicle wrecks some folks are much too quick to blame the driver. Statistically speaking most of those accidents are due to operator errors like speeding or distraction from a cell phone, so people have a bad habit of deciding every similar wreck must be due to something of that nature.

Common factors like those are important to investigate, but they're far from the only possibilities and it's not right to take them for granted. For instance, police mentioned that rough weather might have been a factor; what was going on in the area and how did it affect the roads? Additionally, what if the victim's vehicle had mechanical issues or blew a tire? Did the driver have some kind of medical emergency? Could someone else have caused the crash but then left the scene?

I recognize that some of those issues seem less likely to be involved than others, but they're all distinctly possible as factors and each deserves proper attention when learning the full story. It's important to get clear answers, if for no other reason than to provide the victim's loved ones with as much of the truth as it's possible to find. If there are issues of accountability to look into as well, knowing that depends largely on what the truth turns out to be. It remains to be seen if law enforcement will make the required effort to learn it.
