Two Injured in Dump Truck Accident on Route 22 in Lincolnshire, IL
Lincolnshire, IL -- May 23, 2022, two people were injured after an accident where multiple vehicles crashed along Route 22.
Officials said that the crash took place at approximately 1:16 p.m. on Route 22/Half Day Road off Old Mill Road.
In their reports, investigators did not specify what led to the crash. They said only that a dump truck and a car collided as both vehicles reportedly attempted a lane change on eastbound lanes. This sent the car into oncoming lanes where it hit a van and caught fire.
The car driver and the driver of the van were taken to a Libertyville hospital. No further information about the crash is available at this time.
Commentary on Dump Truck Accident on Route 22 in Lincolnshire
It seems rather clear that one or perhaps even both drivers made a mistake while changing lanes, setting off this chain of events. Finding out who it was and what the mistake was may be more complex than people realize. It isn't always as simple as waiting for police to speak to witnesses and examine the scene. Their efforts often leave a lot to be desired.
Not long ago, for example, I had someone come to me after they and a semi-truck crashed at a traffic light. Both drivers claimed they had a green light, and the investigating officer simply couldn't sort things out. The officer essentially left the victim to fend for themselves. Well, we were able to quickly locate security footage from a nearby business that caught the events on video. That footage clearly showed the truck run a red light, and that was that.
Maybe nothing so obvious happened here, but it's one of the reasons I always advocate for more thorough independent investigations after a serious crash like this. The sooner victims and families have professionals look into things, the sooner they get the answers they need. Waiting around for the authorities may not get them the information they're looking for.
