Commentary on Semi-Truck Accident on I-465 in Indianapolis
It's not entirely clear what went wrong here, but a semi-truck somehow crashing into a highway sign means something went seriously wrong. What that may be, however, could be more complex than folks realize. It's not always as simple as someone being on their phone or falling asleep at the wheel. Not long ago, for example, I handled a situation in which a truck driver had a medical emergency. When we looked into things, though, it turned out that condition was entirely foreseeable, yet the driver's employer continued to allow the driver to handle massive commercial trucks, putting him and others in serious danger. Actions like that are entirely avoidable, and they warrant more serious consequences when an accident occurs. Maybe nothing so complex happened here, but it's one of the reasons I would ensure crashes like this get attention from experienced independent investigators.
