Brittany Watson Killed in Crash with 18-Wheeler on I-30 in Bryant, AR

Bryant, AR -- May 22, 2022, 30-year-old Brittany Watson was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 30 in Saline County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 2:20 a.m. on eastbound I-30 near mile marker 124. Preliminary investigation suggests Watson was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe west in the eastbound lanes of the highway, against traffic, when she collided head-on with an eastbound Freightliner 18-wheeler. Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway.

Watson suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The truck driver, 25-year-old Nicodemus Ragira, received unspecified injuries.

Commentary on Brittany Watson Accident on I-30 in Bryant

Reports say the victim was traveling the wrong direction on the road when the two vehicles collided. It's unclear if that was the case for some time or if she had just crossed over before the crash, but if police are certain she did hopefully they'll carefully look into what might have caused that. How fast was her vehicle traveling? Was it in good repair? Was the victim herself in good health, awake, and alert? Is it possible the rainy weather or wet road conditions mentioned in reports had anything to do with her crossing left of center? Are road signs and the center line clearly visible along that stretch of road? Could the truck driver realistically have done anything different to avoid the collision or reduce its damage?

I know that last question sounds like I want to blame the trucker, but I'm just trying to ensure all the variables are properly addressed here. People don't travel the wrong direction on a highway for no reason, and it's important to get answers about that and many other lingering questions before anyone reaches conclusions about how this terrible incident occurred. Will law enforcement be thorough enough to find the real truth for the victim's loved ones, or would they be better served by independent investigations?
