With tire blowouts like this, it's easy for people to write it all off as unavoidable. That's often true, considering the likelihood something in the road popped the tire. It's also possible, however, that this was unavoidable. Most may consider the other common possibility that the tire needed to be replaced, but what makes these situations so complex is the possibility of a defect.

Manufacturing defects have cause serious blowouts over the years, and they can easily turn deadly. Whether it's poor design or inferior construction, a prudct failing under normal use and getting people hurt is something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Those investigations, however, are not the sort of thing authorities tend to handle on their own. That's why more thorough independent investigations often prove necessary in these situations.
