Commentary on Winnsboro ISD Bus Crash

Whatever police turn up about the cause of the bus accident, it's at least something of a silver lining to see none of the students were hurt too badly in the crash. With that said, though, I always feel some caution when I see reports about injured kids.

Even when reports say their injuries were minor, it's always important to treat an accident as though they were serious. People don't always consider that injuries can affect children differently. An injury that adults shrug off can cause issues for kids whose bodies are still growing and changing. If parents don't realize there is a problem until further down the line, it may be too late by then to get evidence about the crash to get the assistance the child needs. Taking those steps now helps ensure that the families are prepared to help their child while hoping that it won't ultimately be necessary. I see no reason to treat this accident as the exception.
