Officials said that a Nissan Sentra was westbound along Hammerly. Sources possibly identified the driver as Eliu Lucas Coxaj, but this has not been confirmed at this time. That vehicle was approaching the intersection when it somehow hit the back of a Toyota Tundra. Reports initially say the Nissan then left the scene, but the reports contradict themselves, identifying the Toyota as the vehicle located following the crash.

Sources described the driver possibly identified as Lucas Coxaj and a passenger in the Nissan as having incapacitating injuries. The exact cause of the crash can't be confirmed at this time.

With early reports like these, it gets a bit too east for folks to start jumping to conclusions. They see someone read end another vehicle at a red light, and they just assume that driver must have been doing something wrong. Is that possible? Of course. In fact, that's pretty darn likely. But it's also possible something unusual like a mechanical defect or road hazards contributed to the crash. Perhaps things like brakes, seatbelts, or airbags didn't function properly. Even if something seems unlikely, the evidence should be allowed to speak for itself. It remains to be seen if authorities actually took the steps to get that evidence or if the crash would be better off in the hands of more experienced investigators.
