Commentary on Richard Mendoza Jr. Single Vehicle Accident in Harris County

With single-vehicle wrecks like this, one of the more common obstacles is simply investigators that are quick to jump to conclusions. I can't tell you how many times folks came to me for help because authorities said that something like alcohol or speeding caused the crash, but further investigations showed they were outright wrong.

Things like speeding and alcohol are common, of course, and the complex possible factors surrounding them (such as holding complicit bars accountable for over-serving the driver) require a lot of experience and evidence. But jumping to conclusions only risks overlooking other possibilities. Mechanical issues, tire blowouts, medical conditions, road defects--it isn't my place to look at these reports and speculate. My part is to ensure folks understand why it's so important they ensure professionals look into things so the evidence can speak for itself. Are those steps being taken here?
