Commentary on Truck Accident on I-75 South in Dayton

There's not much information about what happened here, so I hope either the authorities or--if needed--independent investigators will look far more closely to figure out what happened. It's one thing to say a car and a truck crashed, but it's another to explain how. Were they traveling the same or opposite directions? Did someone fail to yield or maintain their lane? Were both drivers paying attention to their surroundings? Are their vehicles in good repair, or did one or the other have a mechanical problem? Did someone blow a tire? How fast were they both traveling? What does the electronic data from both vehicles say about their speed and braking? Were there any witnesses who saw what happened? Could there be any video from the truck's dashcam or nearby business surveillance?

I may be jumping the gun asking some of that, and I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of those questions were answered by the time police consider the investigation closed. My concern is that some of those issues (and many others) may go unaddressed in a "by the book" investigation. If that happens and the injured victim is left without important answers and evidence, they may have a much harder time seeking help with their injuries. If it's possible law enforcement might miss or neglect some details (it happens more often than some might think), then it may be best for an independent expert to have another look on the victim's behalf.
