According to officials, a 49-year-old man was in a GMC Terrain traveling along the northbound lanes of the freeway. That vehicle somehow came to a stop without emergency lights, reports say, in the roadway. While there, Ford pickup crashed into the GMC.

The GMC driver reportedly had incapacitating injuries due to the crash. Police say alcohol may have been a contributing factor, but this was not confirmed.

It's concerning anytime authorities bring up alcohol, though hopefully investigators were experienced enough to consider other possible factors to ensure folks were getting the full story. If alcohol was a factor, though, it's possible there was a local bar that contributed to these events. Just after 2:00 a.m., it's all too common-especially down in Houston. What makes that particularly important is dram shop law. The law says bars can be liable for contributing to accidents if they over-served the person responsible. This isn't always the sort of thing authorities bother looking into, so there may need to be more thorough investigations to get clear answers here.
