Cameron County, TX -- April 29, 2022, 44-year-old Adam Flores was killed in a traffic accident on State Highway 48 in Cameron County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 3:20 p.m. on TX-48 close to KeppelAMFELS. Preliminary investigation suggests a Flores was driving a Chevrolet Camaro west on the highway when a non-contact vehicle changed lanes nearby. Flores swerved to avoid hitting that vehicle, then lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane. It then crashed with a Ford F-150 pickup truck; pictures of the scene after the collision suggest the truck was carrying work supplies in its bed.

Flores suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The Ford driver was transported to an area hospital.

Commentary on Adam Flores Accident on TX-48 in Cameron County

Altogether from reports it sounds like this is just a tragic accident brought on by an untimely lane change. I hope the non-contact driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, but I don't want to speculate on any legal consequences that might be involved here.

I only want to say that I hope police will be as thorough as is needed to get the whole story here. How fast were all the vehicles traveling? Were they all in good working order? Was the non-contact vehicle commercial or personal? What were road conditions like? What about weather?

Some may think it's silly to look into all those extenuating details, but a crash caused by a misjudged traffic maneuver might look exactly the same as one caused by a loss of traction on a slippery road. It's only right that the story is told just by facts and evidence; further investigation might just confirm the story police already have, but it could also uncover new details that change the narrative. Getting the victim's loved ones the help they deserve partly depends on learning the whole truth about their loss.
