Commentary on Car Accident on Pearl Retreat Lane in Austin

Authorities are still trying to figure out how this terrible incident happened, but while they work to find evidence people may be ready to venture some theories of their own. For example, some may say that when a car hits a stationary object--particularly a large and unmistakable one like a building--that it's likely impairment was a factor.

That possibility can't be discounted without proper investigation, and if conclusive evidence is found that alcohol played a part that might add some complexities to the wreck. Investigators would then need to find the alcohol's source in case a local business violated dram shop law. In such events that business might then be liable for the injuries suffered by their over-intoxicated customer.

Having said that, however, it's important to add that nobody has uttered a single word about alcohol so far. I read the same reports as everyone else and I'm not claiming to know more or better than police. I mention dram shop law because it could have helped many victims and families who never knew they had rights after an accident like this, but it may not even apply here. Investigators still need to look into many other possible factors like road conditions, vehicle failures, and sudden medical episodes affecting the driver, just to name a few. The most important thing is to find clear answers about how and why the wreck occurred. If any other action is warranted above and beyond finding those answers, that may depend on exactly what is learned.
