Commentary on Jessie Willard Irvin Jr. Single-Vehicle Accident in Houston

It's concerning anytime authorities bring up alcohol, but it's important to understand what exactly that means. For one, it could mean some local business needs to be held responsible. Texas dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Oftentimes, serious accidents happen when someone is on their way home from a bar that recklessly served them. Could it be that happened here?

But beyond that, folks also need to understand that authorities often bring up alcohol simply out of speculation. Investigations could show nothing of the sort led to this crash. That's why it's also important the crash is in the hands of investigators who will look into things like mechanical issues, tire blowouts, road defects, medical conditions, etc. At the end of the day, it's best to let the evidence speak for itself. Getting the family as much evidence as possible, then, should be a priority.
