With single-vehicle wrecks like this, there are a few common factors investigators look into. That's why it isn't surprising to see them mention alcohol, even if it turns out to be little more than speculation. It's especially important to consider the possibility of a local business being responsible under dram shop law for illegally over-serving a driver and contributing to a serious. But with that said, steps should be taken to ensure investigators are considering less common factors. Even something rare, like a mechanical defect for example, warrants attention when it comes to people getting the help they need. Otherwise, important details could slip through the cracks. The question right now is whether or not those steps are being taken here.
