Commentary on Yudelkis Alarcon Car Accident in Houston
There are still many details here yet to be confirmed, which is all the more reason to take early reports with a grain of salt. Whatever caused this wreck and whoever was or wasn't involved, there's more than enough reason to make sure experienced investigators look into things. Not least among the reasons is the possibility of alcohol contributing to the crash. What makes that so complex is the possibility of the accident falling under dram shop law.
Put simply, dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Not only can this hold negligent businesses accountable for their actions, it can be a significant source of help for the victims involved. That's why it's so frustrating how rarely the authorities look into that sort of thing on their own. Are steps being taken here to make sure those involved are getting every opportunity to pursue the help they need?
