Commentary on Pedestrian Hit-and-run Accident on Zarzamora in San Antonio
It's at least encouraging to see that police were able to apprehend the driver involved here. However, that may not be all there is to the story. Put simply, drivers that leave the scene often do so because they had something specific they didn't want police to know about.
It could be there were warrants or drugs they didn't want police to know about. Sometimes, it's simply a dumb decision by someone panicking. A lot of times, however, alcohol is a factor. Especially this early in the morning, there should be an investigation into whether or not a local bar over-served the driver, as that bar could also bear responsibility for the victim's injuries under dram shop law.
Punishing someone for a crime is one thing, but getting folks the help they need requires even more thorough investigations into the events leading up to the accident. Are those steps being taken here?
