Commentary on Semi-Truck Accident on East 24th in Des Moines

Considering something as egregious as a truck running a stop sign, it almost seems like a miracle reports say there were only minor injuries. I certainly hope that's true, but that's no reason to take the situation lightly. Minor injuries aren't always as minor as reports make them seem.

Not long ago, for example, I had someone who was involved in a commercial vehicle accident, resulting in some back pain. Doctors initially sent him home with the all-clear, but days later, the pain became crippling. Further testing showed that the crash actually ruptured a disk in his spine, and he would ultimately need surgery, significant physical therapy, and months of back-and-forth with the insurance company to get back on his feet again.

Again, I sincerely hope nothing like that happens here, since it's an ordeal no one should have to go through. But if that man hadn't had help from experienced professionals, he may not have been prepared to get the help he ended up needing. That's why I encourage people to take all commercial vehicle wrecks seriously, even if they may not seem serious at first glance.
