It's not clear if authorities were ever able to locate the truck mentioned in the reports, but simply putting out reports like these can be a significant help. I had folks harmed by a truck hit and run a while back, and for months, there was no progress. When we circulated the details in the public, however, a couple came forward as witnesses. Apparently, they saw the crash and actually followed the truck, writing down identifying information on the truck. They only broke off pursuit because the truck driver literally tried to run them off the road. Afterward, they took this information to the police, but somehow the department lost track of the information and never followed up. Thanks to them seeing reports in the news, even months after the accident, a family got the opportunity to see some accountability for their hardships which they may not have otherwise had. Perhaps similar efforts would yield similar results here.
