Travis Wiedenfeld, 1 Injured in Truck Accident in Port Arthur, TX

Port Arthur, TX -- March 13, 2022, Travis Wiedenfeld and another person were injured due to an accident where two trucks collided.

Investigators reported that the crash took place at around 6:30 a.m. along Memorial Boulevard/US 69 off Lucian Adams Drive.

According to officials, 23-year-old Travis Carl Wiedenfeld was in a Ford pickup traveling northbound on Memorial when the vehicle somehow crashed into an Econoline truck parked along the side of the road.

Due to the crash, reports listed Wiedenfeld as having incapacitating injuries. The unidentified driver of the Econoline reportedly had non-incapacitating injuries. Reports suggest alcohol was a factor, but this and other possible factors cannot be confirmed.

Commentary on Travis Wiedenfeld Truck Accident in Port Arthur

To be clear up front, I have no particular information to make me doubt these reports. Alcohol could very well be a factor here, and that would be important to look into. That's especially true with early morning wrecks like this, as they often happen because someone was out drinking the night before, and the establishment illegally over-served them to the point they were still too drunk to drive the following morning. That could lead to dram shop law which says those negligent businesses can be liable for the injuries resulting from their negligent over-service.

With that said, I can't say if alcohol was a factor here or not. Throughout my career, I've had plenty of people come to me with reports where authorities accused them of this or that, and further investigations simply showed the police got the facts wrong. Some officers are inexperienced. Some don't have access to the equipment they need. Reports can even get mixed up or misinterpreted. Maybe nothing like that happened here, but it's just as important to consider alternative explanations when it comes to getting people the help they need. I have serious concerns whether or not those precautions were taken here.
