Commentary on Truck Accident on I-15 in Hesperia
It's not entirely clear what happened here, but that's not so unusual this soon after any commercial truck wreck--let alone one involving multiple trucks. Even what may seem like a cut-and-dried rear-end crash may have more complexities to it than are obvious at first, and years of experience in commercial wrecks tell me that the trucking companies are likely to complicate things while disputing fault between them.
The key is to make sure the investigators in charge are devoting enough time and resources to find all the objective facts of the crash. People with plenty of experience in investigating commercial truck wrecks will know just how often authorities overlook important details after serious accidents. Moreover, inexperienced police often let trucking companies' investigators handle the bulk of the in-depth analysis. Not surprisingly, those investigators usually conclude their employer's driver did absolutely nothing wrong.
Police don't always drop the ball after these wrecks and they may be on top of this one, but I've seen many instances where investigations peter out due to a lack of resources, a lack of manpower, or just a lack of prioritizing accident reconstruction. To make things that much more challenging, there are almost always two companies fighting to avoid as much responsibility as possible. It's all too easy for the victims and families to get lost in the shuffle if they don't have the facts on their side. That's why ensuring experienced investigators look into things as much as possible can be crucial for those in need of help and, at the very least, some answers. Are those steps being taken here?
